TexShop: do I still need texlive via MacPorts?

TeX - LaTeX Asked by John Aguado on July 21, 2021

In the past I have used TeX Live on my Mac, installed through MacPorts (including several additional packages). I’m a fan of command line, so I typically create my PS/PDF files through the usual commands: latex, bibtex, dvips, or pdflatex depending on need.

I have now installed TeXShop on my Mac, and wondering: Do I still need to install TeX Live? I guess not? Did the installation of TeXShop is such that all libraries are accessible when I use latex, bibtex, dvips, pdflatex … from command line? Or do I need to add TeXShop to the path into my .profile? How do I do that?

Any help would be appreciated!
