(Repost) Warning only on certain citations, and I don't know why

TeX - LaTeX Asked by 006 Delta on January 17, 2021

Repost: I am new to the TeXSE and received comments on how I should be posting a full example, and so here it is. Thank you to anyone that pointed this out.

So I am using texmaker with Miktex, and only 2 out of 6 citations is undefined apparently, with the error message "Citation X on page Y undefined". I don’t know if this information helps, but I first wrote in the 4 that works into the bib file, then referenced it in my main document (i.e. addbibresouce and printbibliography). Then later I added the 2 more references to my bib file, saved it, ran pdflatex→bibtex→pdflatex*2, but there still is a warning. By the way, texmaker does autofill for all 6 entries, so I think texmaker recognizes the references, but the compiler doesn’t… Maybe it’s the way I wrote it though so the following is the bib file. The last 2 doesn’t work.

I would really appreciate it if y’all can help me. The "only 2 I added later doesn’t work" thing really bugs me out.

One Answer

Huge thanks to @Ross for helping me out with this problem! I'll post what I did here.

  1. First as he told me, I deleted the aux file (I deleted all files that aren't .tex, .bib, or .bcf for good measure), and ran pdf latex once. Then a warning comes up for all the bib entries, and none of them are acknowledged. Then running bibtex, an error comes up saying it can't find the bib file.

  2. So I copied whatever I wrote in the bib file to a new file. Saved it under the same name, and basically replaced the original bib file.

  3. Run pdflatex→bibtex→pdflatex*2. Then voila, all entries are recognized.

I'll be honest, I don't know why this worked, but it did.
