Create Resource File for BibTool

I need to clean up my .bib file and keep only a few fields (author, year, title and journal). I have seen that I can use BibTool for deleting the unnecessary fields, however I have failed to create a resource file for such a task with BibTool. Can you please explain how to do to so?
