Animated a map coloring

I have already posted a similar question a few days ago and this is basically the greedy version of the other question. I am trying to animate a coloring process over time to present results from thesis. In my example I am animating a graph of Europe. In the beginning I turned the map into a graph (vertices = countries and edges represent borders between countries) and animated the coloring with the help of the following answer:

But now I am wondering if it is possible to directly color a geographical map of Europe. I have looked around a few packages but I have not found a package that let me insert maps or adress countries as nodes with the node command. Do you guys have any idea or have you maybe seen something similar to what I am trying to do?
