Use Xbox Game Bar to record an application window on one desktop, while working on another

On Windows 10, we can use the Xbox Game Bar to record an application window. Is it possible to record an application window on one (virtual) desktop, while working on the other? It seems like the recording switches to the other desktop, when I switch to another desktop.

If this is not possible, are there any (non-commercial) alternatives?
