PC can't certain detect hardware in driver software

Super User Asked by ijustwantmymousetowork on February 24, 2021

I have a very interesting problem that I can’t find information about anywhere on the internet.

I have a custom built PC. It’s fairly new (around 7 months). Everything works great! The only problem is that the PC has issues detecting certain USB devices in the driver software. For example, I have a SteelSeries Arctic Pro Wireless gaming headset. There is a transmitter base station that connects wirelessly to the headset. The headset works fine. It shows up in my device manager exactly as expected. I am able to toggle between the headphones in the sound settings. However, when I try to find it in the product driver software (SteelSeries Engine) so that I can toggle with the settings, nothing is detected. It just can’t detect the headset. This is the same exact problem with my wireless Logitech MX Master 3 mouse. I have the wireless unifying receiver plugged into my PC. PC detects it perfectly. I go into the Logitech Options driver software, and the software will say no unifying receiver is detected. The devices themselves work fine without the drivers, but I’d like to be able to customize my hardware using the provided driver software.

I don’t know if this is an issue that’s exclusive to wireless devices, but so far, my two wireless devices are having this problem. I have no problems with my wired Corsair keyboard when I try to access it via the iCUE software, my wired RedDragon gaming mouse, or any of my hard component drivers (GPU, RAM, Heatsink) to toggle the RGB.

Here is a list of things I’ve tried to diagnose this problem:

  • Reinstalling the drivers

  • Reinstalling the drivers with a previous version

  • Updating to the latest version of Windows 10

  • Trying both wireless devices with my Windows laptop and Mac laptop
(no problems here, so I know it’s not an issue with the wireless
    hardware)

  • Laptop has the exact same version of Windows 10 as 2020 PC

  • Tried reinstalling the system drivers in my Device Manager

  • Plugging in the wireless USB receivers on each of the different ports
on my PC (USB 3.0, 3.1, and 3.2)

  • Plugging in the wireless USB receivers on a USB hub

  • Running the drivers in safe mode

  • Updating all my hardware drivers (especially my motherboard)

The only thing that I found interesting was when I tried using the devices in their driver software on my old custom built PC (2013). I had the same problems there. The driver software would not detect the wireless receivers/devices. This PC is also Windows 10, same version.

I’m going nuts over this. I really don’t know what else I can do to diagnose the problem. I know the mouse can also connect via blue tooth (I tried it with my laptop in addition to using the receiver, and they both function exactly the same). I’m going to purchase a USB blue tooth receive and see if I can get my PC to detect my mouse that way.

Any advice is appreciated.
