A Virtual IP was set up for hosts db1 and db2 to share. They are both running RHEL 8. These hosts are configured with keepalived using VRRP to failover the virtual IP address from the master (db1) to the backup (db2). I followed this tutorial.
Keepalive seems to be working correctly- the virtual IP is associated with the master, and when I test failover, the virtual IP then gets associated with the backup, as confirmed with "ip addr". Logs show that db2 starts broadcasting gratuitous ARP over multicast, and multicast is enabled on the NIC that the virtual IP is associated with.
When the virtual IP is assigned to db1, I can ping that IP and everything connects correctly. But when the virtual IP fails over to db2, I can no longer ping the virtual IP and any connections to that IP drop.
What other troubleshooting steps should I take to figure out why the network isn’t recognizing db2 as the new owner of the virtual IP?
