When
enters the Void at the beginning of the final episode, we see a variety of multicolored orbs floating around. I suppose these are probably representations of the cosmoses that have been consumed by the Void, presented in a form that our minds can understand. The Void itself is suffused with a bright white light, and large letters floating in midair proclaim it to be "THE VOID". From its orientation, permanence and so forth, this text appears to be diegetic, rather than intended to inform the audience of the obvious fact that she is now in the Void. Several enormous framed paintings, gigantic in scale compared with the orbs, are also present.
Later, when we see
in the afterlife, it appears to be suffused with a bright white light, albeit pinker and with a less clinical feel, and its "walls" are more defined. Large letters floating in midair (or on the walls?) declare it to be "The Sweet Hereafter," and several enormous paintings accompany them.
This visual similarity is striking, and it is not a general characteristic of otherwordly realms. For instance, Hell exhibits a marked lack of explanatory text or art. Is there any connection between these two realms?
