What is Transverse linear increase?

I saw this term in a Optics Book inside the chapter of spherical mirrors(but also might be related to gaussian mirrors), and I was wondering, what it this Linear increase, if spherical mirrors don’t increase(or decrease) the size of the image linearly, and why is it transverse?
