Slow varying envelope approximation (SVEA) in solid state systems

I remember there is some sort of slow varying envelope approximations (SVEA) when studying wavefunctions in solids, expecially quantum wells, but can’ t remember any reference. Is there a good reference for this approach?

This kind of approximation is used for block wave functions in slow varying non-periodic external potential.
