Nielsen form of Lagrange equations

I came across the Nielsen form of Lagrange equations and I’d like to know what it’s advantages are compared to the Lagrange equations, but I’ve been looking for it all day and haven’t found anything. Does anyone know what exactly is better or worse to use them rather than the general Lagrange equations?
