3 month old kitten in recovery, very skinny and has white gums

Pets Asked by AnarKi on June 2, 2021

I have a kitten that is 13 weeks old, he went through a very tough week last week and still is in the danger zone (more details below since it might be very relevant).

I just checked the gum, and it seems white not just pale pink. Can this be due to malnutrition and should go away soon?

Details on kitten’s last week complications:

The kitten suffered a week of vomiting with little to no eating because of lack of appetite and whatever was fed through a syringe was vomited out shortly after. Of-course the kitten was taken to the vet and had fluid injections and glucose injections that it needed to survive. Finally the kitten was diagnosed with coccidia parasites after performing a fecal test.

The treatment consisted of:

  • 3 day dose of Baycox (toltrazuril) 5% Suspension (finished yesterday).
  • Paspertin Tropfen (Metoclopramide) as an anti-vomit 3 times per day (this ends today).

As for the nutrition, the kitten is now having for the second day in a row 50g of the royal canine recovery wet food, which slightly diluted with water and a pinch of probiotics (Purina Fortiflora).

The kitten is only 770g due to all the hardship… should have been around 1.8kg at this age.
