Motor Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Asked by Drago Rosson on May 26, 2021
I originally used a plastic 3/4" tee (like https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/dorman-help-3-4-x-3-4-x-3-4-in-plastic-heater-hose-tee-47118/22147167-P ) but it deforms and leaks, so I want to switch to metal. However, I can’t find an automotive version. I found PEX-rated brass ones in abundance, like https://www.homedepot.com/p/SharkBite-3-4-in-PEX-Barb-Brass-Tee-Fitting-UC370LFA/202270639 .
PEX has a rating of at least 200 degrees F and 160 PSI, which is around the operating temperature of coolant. I’ve also read in some of the descriptions that brass fittings far exceed PEX ratings, and smaller brass automotive fittings are available, just not in the size I need.
Can I use PEX brass fittings in my car?
