2016 Forester key won't open door

Key is OEM and rarely used. Battery to vehicle died. Key turns to about 10 o’clock to 2 o’clock but the door will not unlock. Remote lock and unlock were working fine. Weather is in the 30s.

I’m open to any suggestions. This has never happened where the damn key wouldn’t open the door.
