Why do I sometimes get noise and no water from my kitchen faucet?

It appears that the problem returns after a new aerator is installed. I would put in a water filter. If you are handy you can put a whole house filter on the main water supply ( or hire a plumber ) or just a point of use filter under you sink but you would need two, one for each hot and cold.

Original answer: You can purchase new aerators for some faucets. You can also take yours off and soak in in a lime dissolving solution. You can actually take some of them apart and clean the different screens and parts with the solution and toothbrush but you need to record exactly how they all fit together to put it back in proper working order.

P.S. do not brush your teeth with the toothbrush afterwards unless you have lime deposits on you teeth. :)

I don't think it's your aerator. Probably the aerator is adding a bit of resistance to your water flow, which causes the control ball or an O-ring inside the faucet to shift and block the water flow.

I suspect the faucet's control valve is damaged, worn, or obstructed. If it's a decade since it was new or last repaired, I would go ahead and buy a rebuild kit ($15) and replace the components inside the faucet. It's not a difficult job and shouldn't take a first-time amateur more than about 30 minutes to do, especially if you watch a how-to video first.

I also recommend that you buy the silicone lubricant if it's not already part of the kit, since new O-rings in an old faucet will need some extra lubrication.

Years later I had a similar situation - it was a “burst prevention” hose and a high flow faucet- if I turned the faucet on just right (kinda slow the fast) the hose check valve would trigger and no hot water.
