My toilet starting leaking down the PVC sewer pipe underneath into my unfinished basement last week and also causing a loud banging and resonance through my pipes when it would fill. I thought that minerals had locked up the toilet fill valve so it could no longer close when full all the way and the water was just banging trying to get through the reduced aperture. I replaced the fill and flush valves and all seemed well. I just noticed today in the basement water slowly running down the outside of the PVC coming and dripping into the trash bin I had left there from before. This was happening while the toilet was filling back up after being used. The water looks clean and its stops leaking when the tank is done filling. The floor around my toilet is dry but it looks as if the installer caulked around the toilet. The toilet doesn’t move when jiggled. What could be the cause of the leak? It appears the leak is running down the pvc from the floor line not just from a leaky elbow underneath.
