Efficient closet storage system

Home Improvement Asked on September 9, 2020

I have a "closet" that was originally designed for a stackable washer/dryer. It’s currently a poorly utilized junk storage closet. I want to turn it into an efficient and easy to use storage area.

The floor area is 52" x 43". The inside is 108" high. The door is 80" high. In other words there’s 28" of storage space above the top of the door frame if I can design something that will allow access to that as well.

The best idea that I’ve been able to come up with so far is a hang track with standards on it and shelves hooked into those on either left and right wall (and possibly back wall as well) and then custom size cut plywood as the shelves. The upper shelves would be half shelves so that they could be reached from the inside given the door height.

Are there any well know or open source designs that would provide a more efficient way of turning this into a storage closet?
