2 outlets not working, breaker is not bad

We have 2 outlets (one on each side of the wall) that stopped working suddenly. All other outlets and switches on the same breaker (before and after these 2 in the chain) are working fine. We have replaced the outlets and tested the breakers. Still nothing to these 2 outlets. When we tested the voltage, it was reading with power still. Does anyone know what could be causing this? My husband has worked in the electrical industry for many years and has never seen anything like this. Thank you in advance!
