Is there a way to install the v-late ArcMap extension silently?
I’m also looking to deploy linkage mapper.
https://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=69963ab422d04e649b64ac11cbadafed
https://circuitscape.org/linkagemapper/
I’m not sure how much more detail I can give. Both extensions only come with zip files, no exe files, and instructions on how to do it in the graphic interface. The v_late author suggested looking at ESRIRegAsm: http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/arcobjects-net/conceptualhelp/index.html#//0001000004n6000000
I actually caught these two commands running multiple times with sysinternals process monitor. But it hasn’t worked when I tried it myself. The second command requires temp files anyway.
C:Program Files (x86)Common FilesArcGISbinESRIRegAsm.exe" /p desktop /v 10.8 /s "C:Program Files (x86)ArcGISV_LATE_arcgis104V_LATE_2_arcgis104.dll"
"C:Program Files (x86)Common FilesArcGISbinESRIRegAsm.exe" /p desktop /v 10.8 /f:C:UsersadminAppDataLocalTemparc7CB710bD929.tmp /s "C:Program Files (x86)ArcGISV_LATE_arcgis104V_LATE_2_arcgis104.dll"
It requires an elevated prompt. If I could allow it without prompt elevation, that would be progress. I can easy install ArcPro because it’s an msi. But these extensions seem impossible to deploy in a setting like a school classroom.
Is there a registry entry like this that would allow non-admins to install an extension like this?
HKLMSOFTWAREWow6432NodeESRIDesktop10.8SettingsAddInFolders
Other possibilities?
Put in C:Users<username>DocumentsArcGISAddInsDesktop10.8
Or run this: C:Program Files (x86)Common FilesArcGISbinESRIRegAddIn.exe c:tempmyaddin.esriAddIn /s
And I don’t know how to uninstall it for testing purposes.
How to install v_late by hand:
How to add the command:
Unpack the files:
V_LATE_2_argis104.tlb
V_LATE_2_argis104.dll
V_LATE_2_argis104.xml
V_LATE_Help.html
V_LATE_Help.jpg
V_LATE_categories.gif
Readme_V_LATE.txt
in the same folder.
Start ArcMap and choose "Customize Mode…" from the Customize Menu. You have to start ArcMap with administrator rights (right mouse click on the ArcMap icon and choose "Run as administrator"). This has to be done only once (allowing the registration of the extension).
Go to the "Commands" tab and choose "Add from file". Navigate to the folder where the "V_LATE_2_argis104.tlb" is located. Select the file (V_LATE_2_argis104.tlb) and click Open.
The Added Objects dialog box appears, reporting which new objects have been registered with ArcMap. Click OK. If you get the Message box "no new objects added", you may not have started ArcMap with administration rights, which is necessary for the first (!) installation.
In the "Categories" list on the left side click the new entry "V-LATE 2.0v_ArcGIS_104". Click and drag the "V-LATE 2.0" command from the Commands list and drop it on any (existing) toolbar.
Click Close
If the new Command is greyed out, you have to load a shapefile into ArcMap.
Select a polygon shapefile (feature classes from a geodatabase are not fully supported) and click on the "V-LATE 2.0" command
