Problem loading Google Earth backdrop

I’ve long used the Google Earth plug in QGIS. Recently it just wont load properly I’ve reinstalled the plug in updated QGIS etc. However, the problem persists, when I load GE as a backdrop it first appears on the lefthand 2/3 of my screen and then disappears and loads only on the remaining 1/3 to the right? I tried everything but cannot fix this. If I zoom or scroll in any direction the same thing is repeated.
