GeoServer Data Visualisation Framework

We are currently testing out OGC GeoServer implementing WFS 3.0 and very exited about it.
We usually use OpenLayers for displaying the data.
Very often we need further data visualizaions – basic diagrams (bar, line, pie) maybe a KPI.
Of course we can always request the wfs-data, convert it if necessary and feed it to a chart library.
But I am curious, if there are any frameworks that might help in querying, preparing and/or visualising wfs data. I stumbled upon this github project which enables you to automate the described process to a certain extend with configurations like this:

 title: 'Total Population',
 server: 'https://geoserver.siasar.org/geoserver',
 layer: 'siasar:communities',
 property: 'population',
 function: 'Sum'

I wonder if there are similar projects doing this. Maybe Server extensions that enable more detailed queries of and arithmetic operatios on the WFS.
