Geonetwork very slow via localhost

I’ve just installed Geonetwork. I’m running it via localhost:8080, but it is very slow. Signing in can take several minutes or it disconnects because of lack of activity. That’s about as far as I’ve got because it’s so slow.

I pinged my localhost and it responds instantly. What else can I do to diagnose and fix this issue?

• Windows7 64 bit, 32 GB RAM, Xeon processor 8 cores.
• Java version 1.8.0_261
• Tomcat 9.0.38
• Geonetwork 3.10.3

I just got an error saying something about Java Memory Heap – I didn’t write it down and can’t reproduce it at the moment but it gives me something to Google at least.

I seem to have progress – I added the following line to setenv.bat:

set "CATALINA_OPTS=-Xms512M -Xmx1024M"
