Converting .obj 3D files to .tiff raster (or reading .obj on QGIS)

Geographic Information Systems Asked by jcdoming on December 31, 2020

I received a 3d terrain model captured with a drone in .obj format. I am trying to open it in QGIS to use the elevation information as a georeferenced raster, but so far I can’t open it or transform it to GeoTIFF. I can visualize the model superimposed with an orthophoto using Acute 3D viewer, but this program doesn’t have the option to export to raster.

I have found multiple answers online about how to convert a DEM or TIFF to .obj, but not the other way around. I prefer to ask here before downloading and installing multiple software to find one that does the job.

There is a similar question unanswered, but it doesn’t include the ability to transform .obj to raster using other software different from QGIS.

So, bottom line, is there a way to transform .obj to GeoTIFF? or else, is there a way to open an .obj file in QGIS?
