Word for the action or someone who performs the action of "finding the perfect ..."

I am looking for a word, or at least a short phrase, that describes the action of "finding the perfect"… something.
For example, in the following expression, I’d like to replace "found the perfect" with a single word, or, at least, a more elegant expression:

John found the perfect song for the occasion

Also, if you know a word that describes someone who can "find the perfect .. something" – please also let me know. Something like "seeker" but a bit more semantically relevant to the concept I have just described.
