Why should I use articles here?

I’m not quite sure about the future. However, I’m confident that technology will be everywhere and It will make our lives easier. But In other hand, THE development of technology will led to bigger pollution, decreasing of ecology and more people will die of cancer. I think, speaking of technology, we should be sure to maintain A balance between technology and THE environment.

Why should I use articles there, could anyone explain it to me?
