Consider "Microsoft Word" vs. "word processing". The former is clearly a proper name. The latter is not a proper name, but it is more than a common noun. Perhaps it is a frequently occurring name for a specific concept. In information retrieval, this kind of entity is sometimes called an attested noun phrase or a key phrase.
