English Language & Usage Asked on April 7, 2021
Is there a symbol or short/abbreviated word to indicate a change of topic in a stream of text where there is no room for whitespace such as new lines or paragraphs?
For example, in a journal entry you might right a few sentences on one subject. Then, because of limited writing space, you might want to shift to a different topic without line breaks.
If there is a symbol, a Unicode code point number or name would be useful to determine the precise character.
This Question is similar to Typographical symbol to indicate page. But that Question refers to layout of pages and paragraphs, whereas this question is about a change of subject within a stream of text.
It may be that PILCROW SIGN ¶
at Unicode code point 182 is the solution. But I suspect I have seen a more appropriate symbol used.
