English Language & Usage Asked by DarkTrick on December 28, 2020
Background: I had the following Past Perfect sentence:
I had talked to the teacher before she left school.
Question: Is it’s Present Perfect version also allowed?
I have talked to the teacher before she left school.
Usage
I’d say the Present Perfect version could be used e.g. when the teacher is just leaving right now and everybody is waving goodbye. So the teacher already left (therefore simple past for leaving
), but the leaving process is kind of still going on in the present.
