English Language & Usage Asked on May 6, 2021
If someone has accomplished many outstanding achievements and established an incredible legacy, how can I say "I hope they finally found time to settle down and chill out, proud of what they have"
Something like, "They deserve to be resting on their laurels"
But without the negative connotations
You can use the expression
fully deserved
- a well-earned rest

I hope they have gone fishing.
= To drop the duties of daily life and go do something else, something nice.
The term was used in the past of eminent Chinese officials who, on leaving their posts with honour, were said to have retired to their estates to go fishing. {please forgive the lack of reference: it is difficult to find an authority for this}
