English Language & Usage Asked by Richard Haven on November 29, 2020
In an OOP context, "polymorphic" is an imprecise description of class method overrides. The form (or shape) of the method is exactly the same as the base; the only thing that changes is the behaviour of the override by enhancing or (shudder) replacing the base behaviour
I’ve tried translating "many behaviours" back and forth, but the swamp of technical explanations of how polymorphism works hides any chance of finding some linguistic information
I need a Greek or English linguist to figure out the Anglicized Greek-root compound form as an example, not to try and replace the term in usage
Please advise
I have heard the terms polytactical or polytactic applied to object-oriented methods. The tactics of methods are determined by the objects to which they are applied.
Greek taktiki = tactic.
polytactic shows up in google ngram but I cannot find dictionary definition or retrieve evidence of my own recollections of its OOP use.
