English Language & Usage Asked by Peter Wang on March 29, 2021
"It would be best if you could …" vs "it would be the best if you could…", which one is right?
I search it using google and find most people say "would be best" without a definite article. While I thought "the best" is a situation that is known to all so it should follow a definite article. Is it because we always use "It would be better" therefore we drop "the" when we use "be the best".
And there is a similar question about whether "be best" is grammatically right or not
“Be Best” – is the grammar right?
