English Language & Usage Asked on February 8, 2021
I’m sure everyone knows this feeling: you have worked hard on something (which you understand fully because you have been working on it for so long), and then something goes wrong. You know exactly what it was, and how to fix it, but your manager is already mad. They interrogate you frustratedly, your heart starts pounding, blood rushes to your head and your mouth goes dry. You know you did nothing wrong, but you can’t explain to them what happened, or how to fix it, because they simply don’t have the technical language/background to grasp it. You usually end up thinking of a really good analogy which you could use, but hours later.
Is there a word for this feeling? Is it fear? panic? stress?
Is there a way to stay calm in these moments, so as to think of an analogy with a clear head, but without coming across as "not having the same sense of urgency" as they do?
