Is there a phrase for keeping a solution simple?

English Language & Usage Asked by ahbarnum on January 20, 2021

What I mean is- often when someone is looking for help on solving a problem in a certain way, the response is that they shouldn’t even be doing it that way in the first place. Rather, there is a simpler solution that would be smarter to employ than trying to take the more complex solution to the finish line.

Is there a word or phrase for that? First thing that comes to mind is Occam’s Razor, which feels like it fits the spirit of what’s going on, but also doesn’t feel like it pertains exactly to this situation.
