Does this sentence seem ambiguous to native English speakers?

English Language & Usage Asked by vanillasucceeds on December 31, 2020

Hypocrisy rarely baffles its believer.

This in context:

Hypocrisy rarely baffles its believer. Coming from a society that
denounced the rich but sought the riches, I too injudiciously
considered money to be filth.

Before writing the first quoted sentence in my essay, I want to ensure it makes sense to native speakers. If it does, could you please let me know what meaning you could derive from it?
