Dangling modifier suspected

Is the following sentence correct?

After entering 2020, the disease wreaked havoc around the world.

I think that "after entering 2020" could be a dangling modifier here as the disease itself cannot perform the action described by the verb "enter", and it might be better to just write:

The disease has wreaked havoc around the world since the beginning of 2020.
