English Language & Usage Asked by user1245 on December 29, 2020
One of the requirements of a job description is given as following:
Electronics and mechanical enclosure design, assembly, and testing
Does it mean electronics enclosure design plus mechanical enclosure design? Or does it mean electronics design and mechanical enclosure design?
(I am asking because there are phrases like "electronics enclosure" and phrases like "electronics design")
Is there way to infer from the sentence what is meant or am I correct to get confused?
It seems that the sentence refers to both electronics enclosure design and mechanical enclosure design, because those two ideas are joined by the first and; the last and joins that compound request with other equivalent requests, assembly and testing. The sentence could definitely have been written more clearly.

The text as quoted is not a sentence. It's a phrase. Taken in context, it means, "Experience designing, assembling, and testing electronics and mechanical enclosures is required."
