Competencies vs Competences

When talking about a set of skills on a specific area. e.g.: personal like teamwork, responsibility, Decision Making, etc. Which is the correct form to write:

a) personal competencies

b) personal competences

Or are both interchangeable? or any of them is prefered in the US or UK?
