Backed by or with

English Language & Usage Asked by Gurpreet K Sekhon on November 22, 2020

"The medical practitioner is backed with state-of-the-art equipment."

Should the preposition used here be "by" or "with"?

From what I have understood is with is for inanimate objects, while by is by a living entity. Is that correct or does some other logic apply?
