When editing a content type I was going to add a simple boolean field to an existing content type. When attempting to add the new field Drupal threw an error. After a few more attempts to add a field to an existing content type I created a new content type to add a field to and was unable to add a field to a new content type.
I get the following error when trying to create a new field on a content type:
There was a problem creating field First Name: Attempt to create a field field_first_name that does not exist on entity type node.
I have the same problem trying to a field to a taxonomy item:
There was a problem creating field IsActive: Attempt to create a field field_isactive that does not exist on entity type taxonomy_term.
It turns out a configuration change is the cause of this error. Disabling APCu caching and using the ChainedFast cache backend was the cause.
