Make a broken gear bike a fixie

Hi sadly my gear is broken. Now my idea was to remove the gear and shorten the bicycle chain to make the bike a fixie. It’s a bike with 7 gears at the back wheel and no gear at the front.

What do you think is this possible? Which gear should I select for a fixie. I guess the feeling without the gear is different than without the thing to move the gear.
