Ask Ubuntu Asked on November 9, 2021
Got an issue with sound after I rebooted my PC (to be precise, I logged out first, then logged back in and noticed that there is no sound. I checked pavucontrol and everything seemed fine there, so I hoped a reboot would solve the issue).
After rebooting I noticed that pavucontrol doesn’t show any devices anymore and just shows ‘Dummy Output’. So, basucally, my sound card is not detected by ALSA:
$ aplay -l
aplay: device_list:268: no soundcards found...
However, hardware is recognized:
$ lspci | grep -i audio
00:1f.3 Audio device: Intel Corporation 100 Series/C230 Series Chipset Family HD Audio Controller (rev 31)
What I’ve tried so far:
Below is some info that might help understanding my issue:

Not sure why the codecs can’t be found. It is possible that I might be missing something obvious. It seems strange that just a reboot would cause something like this. I don’t think I made any modifications before rebooting which could cause an issue like this.
Any advices would be helpful. I saw there are quite a few similar threads already, but none of the solutions provided there seem to work. Thank you very much in advance!
