When hiding cargo from scanners, how to choose a specific ship to hide in?

In Endless Sky, I own a fleet of several ships but only 2 of them have scanner jammers. In order to avoid detection while running pirate missions, how to choose one of those ships to hold the cargo/passenger?

The only solution I can think of is parking the other ones before accepting the mission, however this is not ideal (assuming it works at all) since some missions may involve automatic dialogue appearing as soon as you get to the spaceport. One would have to park them in a previous planet but this is cumbersome and dangerous to split the fleet.

The game auto distributes trade cargo between the fleet, but that’s not usually an issue since one just fills all available capacity. If this distribution would always go in order, from ship to ship, then the solution would be to sort the fleet with the jammers 1st. The disadvantage here is if your flag ship isn’t one of them. How can I confirm this distribution order though?

btw, if the item was always an outfit, that would be easy, but that’s seldom the case.
