What is the curse that a Yasha inflicts on your character?

In the Darkness in the Capital DLC, an enemy called the Yasha is introduced. When she grabs you, she’ll hit a few times, and leave 5 purple orbs hanging on your back. These orbs fade one at a time after a few seconds, and so far, I haven’t noticed any ill effect from them. What do they do?
