Prismatic Afterglow Xbox Controller Calibration Failure

Arqade Asked by x6c4576gvyugasdhjftguaidiugy on February 7, 2021

I have run into an issue I cannot find an answer to on Google. I purchased a PDP 048-121-NA Afterglow Wired Controller for Xbox One on Amazon about three months ago, and about two weeks ago was when I realized there was controller drift. In attempt to solve this problem, I simply googled what I’d normally google to solve the problem: "how to recalibrate Afterglow controller."

The solution seemed to work immediately, and I was very happy (but I will note that my controller did NOT vibrate uncontrollably during the time when I held down the D-pad and plugged in the larger side of the USB cable.) But only after about a couple hours did I notice that controller drift in the opposite direction had developed.

I attempted to repeat exactly what I did before, but now the controller does not register any input (or does it?) Here is what happens:

  1. I follow exactly the same calibration scheme as prescribed: hold down on D-pad, plug in larger USB end, let go of D-pad, press A, both analog stick 360 clockwise rotation, press LT, press RT, press down D-pad again.
  2. Controller successfully lights up, white light above Xbox home button lights up, but the "color-wheel" light located below the right analog stick does not light up.
  3. There is no longer any registered controller input.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled drivers and the device itself, both automatically and manually. I have also tried using a different microUSB -> USB cable, and the same thing happens. Unfortunately, I don’t know if there’s anything else I can do to troubleshoot this device, and think it must be broken. I’m hesitant to call it broken, though, because (1) the initial calibration process seems to be "working," (2) the controller’s LED are fine afterwords, and (3) Xbox home lights up afterwards too, but color-wheel light does not light up, and that also means that I cannot change the LED color either, and no game registers any input from the controller.

So, question: Are there any other ways that I can use to troubleshoot this controller or should I proclaim it dead?
