Pokemon Go Supported Devices

Arqade Asked by Nigel Smooth on February 11, 2021

I have a Verizon Ellipsis 8 tablet, and I was wondering: should I be able to run Pokemon Go on it?

Each time I try to open up the app, it loads about 3/4 of the way and then it crashes. I have the newest software downloaded for it and I have tried a bunch of other things.

Any help would be appreciated.

One Answer

In July 2019 and October 2020, Niantic updated their minimum supported devices and operating systems, dropping support for older Android and iOS versions and devices.

Specifically, Niantic has ceased support for:

Android

iOS

As of writing, the currently supported technical specifications are below. (See Niantic's Supported Devices Page for the latest):

Android

  • Android 6 or above
  • Preferred resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels (not optimized for tablet)
  • Strong internet connection (Wi-Fi, 3G, or 4G)
  • GPS and Location Services
  • Rooted devices are not supported

iOS

  • iPhone 6s or above
  • iOS 12 or above
  • Strong internet connection (Wi-Fi, 3G, or 4G)
  • GPS and Location Services
  • Jailbroken devices are not supported

What does this mean for your device?

While Pokemon Go now supports Intel-based processors, your Verizon Ellipsis 8 is no longer supported - the highest available Android OS that your phone supports is 5.1. You will need to get a newer device if you wish to continue to play Pokemon Go.
