Minecraft crossplay between iPad and switch

Question

I recently got Minecraft on my iPad in order to play with a friend who owns a copy of the game on Switch. We both run the same version of Minecraft but whenever we try to join each others world we get an error message saying "unable to join world." Could someone assist with fixing this issue?

According to this article on minecraft.net you both of you need to have a Microsoft account to crossplay with non-Nintendo devices.

Seitch is not a cross platform system. Nintendo made it that way to get more money. So basically your friend needs to get it for another system or you need to get a Switch and friend your friend. Also, does you and your friend both have Xbox Live accounts? If either of you do not you will not be able to play together.
