How long does it take crops to grow?

There is an NPC in Bloodstained that lets you plant crops. A GameFAQs thread from 2019 claims that crops used to finish growing after a few screen transitions, but it was changed in a patch. Testing myself in v1.21, I can confirm 50 screen transitions are no longer enough for crops to grow.
