How can I deal with the Rubber Banding at the end of the events?

Sometimes when you are approaching last checkpoint of an event, one of the enemies will have the speed increased to insane levels to try and catch the player. This will sometimes make you loose instantly, for example: with 3 seconds left in a cat and mouse race, or when you are 100m from the last checkpoint in a normal race.

What is the best way to deal with this problem?
