Jenkins job creating build files owned by root

I have a problem with a jenkins job that is creating build files owned by root with permissions 755. Later when another job attempts to clean the workspace it will fail due to permissions error. I am wondering how I can fix this issue, is this something that needs to be changed in the pipeline code/ job config or do i need to change something on the agent
