I am wanting to remote connect to a Linux instance on google cloud and be able to learn Linux on a VM. I access several different computers throughout the day and this will be the best option.
If anybody can help me set up a connection to Google Cloud that would be awesome.
I would prefer to use Ubuntu as that is what all my resources are teaching me at the moment
If you want to use RDP protocol to connect to Ubuntu instance on google cloud through Windows (pro), you can follow the following steps:
1. sudo apt update
2. sudo apt install tasksel
3. sudo tasksel install ubuntu-desktop
4. sudo systemctl set-default graphical.target
5. sudo passwd root // set root password, if you don't remember it
6. sudo apt install xrdp
7. sudo systemctl enable xrdp // This will start RDP service
Now, open Remote Desktop Connection on Windows, put the I.P address and connect. Use "root" as username and its password to log in.

Usually, you will access a Linux server via command line (shell interpreter) using ssh. A very popular client for windows is Putty.
If you are using gcloud
, it has some handy commands to connect to a VM instance (managing credentials and control access).
As far as I know, default Linux VM on GCP, do not have a desktop environment by default, you will need to install it manually if you really need it.
